Haute Aboujagane
Haute-Aboujagane / Upper Aboujagane
The early acadian settlers found that draining marshes using the "aboiteau technique" was easier than cutting trees. The drained and rinsed marshes were very fertile but they were of limited size. The land near the coast was very sandy which is not always good for crops. Eventually settlers moved from the seaside to inland areas where after clearing the trees the soil was more fertile.
